Ron M.,
Dr. Franco,
I will always remember the help, support, and friendship you gave to my Dad.
Thank you.

Jan,
"Thank you, Thank you! For your patients and knowledge that you shared with me."

"I had been ignoring my hearing loss for a variety of reasons. It began taking up too much of my time and energy not dealing with it!
Last year, I saw Dr. Forman-Franco for an evaluation. I was apprehensive, and dealing with stigmas about hearing loss. Dr. Forman-Franco's demeanor was professional and supportive, and soon I felt at ease. I discussed my concerns with her, and she determined which hearing aid would work best for me. Dr. Forman-Franco's expertise was obvious.
I have been wearing (and loving) my Widex hearing aids since January of 2009. The quality of my life both professionally and personally has improved vastly. The hearing aids are unobtrusive, and not easily visible. That was important to me. However, since having my hearing aids and improved quality of life, I would even use a device that was less cosmetically pleasing!"
Thank you, Dr. Forman-Franco.

"Home life with my daughters has become very peaceful since they aren't complaining about my inability to hear. I'm not asking them to repeat themselves so they have stopped lecturing me about the importance of hearing.
Life at my ELK meetings and Veterans of Foreign Wars has improved since I can now hear at the meetings and social events. I never realized the potential hazard I imposed by not hearing while driving.
Now I hear horns, sirens, directional signals realizing what I missed while driving."

"Hearing Aids have been a life improving experience. Since receiving mine, I am much more relaxed, able to engage in conversation, and don't find myself asking people to repeat themselves.
This is all thanks to the knowledge, professionalism, and courtesy of the Plainview Hearing Center staff."

"It took visits to 3 different doctors and 7 weeks for me to finally come to terms with the fact I was experiencing hearing loss and was a candidate for hearing aids. I selected Dr. Franco from the Plainview Hearing and Speech Center to help me because of her patience during my appointment and the education she gave me on a topic that was new to me. Knowing this was going to be an ongoing process, it was important for me to pick someone who was both understanding and local.
It's been a few months now since I've started to wear my hearing aids and they have changed my life. I didn't realize the drawers in my kitchen made noise or the clock in my office ticked. I didn't realize how much I was missing by not being able to understand what my children were saying when I was in another room.
At this point, I wear my hearing aids all day long. I even wear them at the gym, which has relieved my stiff neck caused by leaning over the treadmill to hear my friend speaking.
I want to thank Dr. Franco, as well as Mike and Michelle, for their kindness through this process."

"I really enjoy them. I realize that one must spend money to keep them operating properly, but it's worth it."

"I was fitted for two top-of-the-line digital hearing aids today to compensate for my high-frequency loss. It was amazing to wear them today for the first time. I was sitting in the car waiting…, and I was listening to the music on the radio. I could hear almost every word of the song, and I could hear the music more clearly. I usually ask to make the TV louder, to Number 7 or 8, but today, we were both able to listen at the same level, 4!
I am hearing sounds in my house that have always been here, but I never heard them: the ticking of the clocks in the dining room and the one on the shelf in the TV room. My wife called me from the front door when I was in my car ready to zip off to Walbaum's. When I rolled down the window to ask her what she wanted, her response was, "Hey, you heard me!" At one point today, it brought tears to my eyes to realize what I had been missing.
There are other benefits that might not occur to people whose hearing is normal. I think that because I no longer will be frustrated knowing I am not hearing, I will be more accurate in my responses to other's speech and better company. It had become impossible to hear at large parties like weddings. This particular aid is designed to amplify the sounds from the person whom you're facing and diminish the sounds entering the rear microphones of groups talking behind you.
It is also designed to give highest priority to human speech. In the earlier days, sound of all kinds was amplified equally, so the sound of the car engine and the sound of your passenger's voice were the same volume, and people were always raising or lowering the volume to get right the sound they wanted to focus on. The new generation of hearing aids discriminates in favor of human speech, and it actually reduces the volume of competing noise. We are lucky to be living at such a time, and I am lucky I was able to afford the best product."

Although this is about Hearing And Speech Associates, it is mostly focused on one Audiologist in that office, Dr. Jan Miller, whom I have known on a professional basis since 1998. At that time I was a patient in an ENT office in Long Beach, NY in which Dr. Miller had a practice as an audiologist. She tried to convince me to consider hearing aids. I was younger then, so I resisted.
Two years later, I obtained analog CIC hearing aids from her which I never felt were helpful. I kept coming to the office for checkups and adjustments anyway, but rarely wore them. I have to admit that Dr. Miller tried her best, including sending the hearing aids back a few times.
I remained skeptical, even as in recent years, Dr. Miller suggested I consider new digital hearing aids. She maintained that the new digital technology was a marked improvement. But I was resistant. My fit was difficult and my needs, as a professional musician/music teacher, were rather unique.
Finally, I decided to try again! My first experience was not completely successful, but then Dr. Miller switched me to Starkey advanced digital CIC's with a remote control. The difference has been most satisfying, thus far!
As a musician, I did not realize what I had been missing until a recent experience at a concert when I removed the hearing aids for a few minutes during the concert, then put them back in. It was an "aha experience" for me. My reaction was "Thank you, Dr. Miller, for giving me back my hearing!"
I never realized what I had been missing! Even my wife sometimes insists that I wear them so that I do not misinterpret her or our young children! Of course, I am older now, and the hearing loss has progressed. And also the technology available is much better.
Dr. Miller is a particularly patient soul (she has to be to deal with me as a patient), and she is very attentive, meticulous and persevering about getting everything just right for the patient. This is not just a practice that sells hearing aids, but it is a practice that has proven to me that they really care about me as a person! Thank you again, Dr. Miller!
